So, the external hard drive where I store my layouts (which is almost full), is making a loud whirring noise like it’s trying to catch up to something… Fortunately, I have it all backed up, but I guess this means I should back up the back up now, right? Ugh.

Wait! Never mind—I just examined it more closely and the noise is coming from the fan. So maybe if I can clean it out a bit, then it’ll last a while longer. :)

I sure can’t believe it’s Friday already, can you? We’ve been having a really mild winter here. Yesterday it was cloudy, so I guess that means only two more weeks of winter. You could almost believe it with hardly any snow left, but I know better. ;)

Colors of My Life

Guess what? I’m on a new team! I have always admired my friend Susie’s designs (Psychozoe), so when she had a CT call recently I jumped at the chance. :)

The first kit I worked with was just released today. It’s called Colors of My life and it’s more of a collection. You can get each piece for $1 during Gingerscraps Buffet from now until Feb. 5. This kit has everything you need to scrap those special people in your life complete with their birthstones, date of birth, etc.

Here is my page with my dd at one year old. (Of course, the studio was taking Christmas photos by the time of her birthday so they could be ready in time for gift giving.) I used a template by Photocowgirl.

I’m back already with a brand new release by Marta van Eck! Marta has been having a difficult pregnancy, but is finally feeling well enough to design a new kit. I can’t even tell you how happy I was to hear that! :) This one was definitely worth waiting for, too. It’s called Bathtime and has everything you need for some adorable baby and kid layouts, but could also be used for art journal style pages and much more. You can find it at Deviant Scrap.

In my first page, Penny seriously looks like a large rat when she’s wet, but somehow still cute? LOL The little photo in the corner is how she likes to snuggle up in her robe after stampeding around the house for a bit to get some of the “clean” off.

I call my next page “You Time.” (No, those aren’t my legs—I wish! Those are included in the kit.) ;)

If you like old B/W movies, there are three great ones on Turner Classic Movies tonight starting at 8pm New York time. Two of them were remade later: The Bishop’s Wife (you really have to see the original—I love Cary Grant) and The Shop Around the Corner (You’ve Got Mail—coincidentally, Tom Hanks is sometimes compared to Jimmy Stewart—I like them both). The third one is Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck—very cute movie!

You’re not kidding with that title! The temperature here got down to around 10F last night, I think. It’s slowly climbing, but still well below 20F right now. I’m not complaining, though! It’s very sunny and the high is supposed to be a balmy 30F.

Freebie Alert!

Have you ever used stacked papers? They’re so pretty, aren’t they? Much more interesting than plain papers, but sometimes it might be hard to fit in your pictures to make your layout. Well, Kristmess Designs has come up with a way around that! She flattens any layers from the top paper down into a .jpg and then she merges the layers above that into a .png. So you can tuck your photos in between for a more natural look! (She also includes a flattened version for scrappers who prefer it.) Here’s the latest example:

Happy Wednesday! I’m just popping in to tell you about MDesigns latest kit called Histories d’enfants. You can find it at 7th Heaven and MDesignsscrap. I just love these pretty shades of blue, don’t you? The rest of the color palette is really neutral and soothing, too. In addition to the super cute elements you would expect, there are also some very cool stamps included (the kind that are .png version of brushes). The papers have nice neutral textures that don’t distract from the focus of your layout. Take a look:

Master of Puppets

You may remember Marta van Eck’s kit from last year called Master of Puppets. Well, now you have another chance if you missed it. She has just re-released it in her store at Deviant Scrap. There’s a little bit of everything in it! The cat is super cute and if you believe it’s possible, so is the vulture. ;) Besides the doll parts, cobwebs and eye parts, she has also included some pretty paper flowers and leaf scatters. There’s really too much to mention, because Marta’s kits are always filled to the brim. Take a look at the previews:

So how is your autumn going so far? (If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring otherwise.) I think technically it’s not autumn for another week or so, but it feels like it at the moment. We had temps of around 90 degrees F Monday and today the high will be 65. Yesterday, it was all hazy and the air smelled like smoke all day due to forest fires in Minnesota. That’s the first time I ever remember having smoke make it all the way here from the next state over!

Nifty Fifties

It’s Gotta Grab It time at gottapixel again. :) Kristmess Designs has created the cutest kit with a nostalgic theme called Nifty Fifties. Her pieces include papers, elements, shabby papers and alphas. If you consider the time period that Happy Days takes place in to be the good old days, then this kit is for you! (And who doesn’t?) ;)

Here are my pages. The first is from a trip to Wisconsin Dells. If I remember correctly, this was in front of the Denny’s restaurant they have there with an oldies/Hollywood theme.

The second layout features my daughter dressed up for Homecoming parade as a freshman. I made her the poodle skirt using heavy felt and we found the saddle shoes at Goodwill. :)

Isn’t this a fun kit? I think it would work for people with dogs and also for baby layouts, too.

Remembering

Oh dear! I’m back already because I just found this draft in my Live Writer queue. I remembered to post my pages in the galleries, but not to finish up this blog post. :( How ironic that the name of the kit is Remembering, huh? ;) Please wait while I go back to triple check that I haven’t actually posted this already, because this just can’t be happening … Never mind, it’s not a dream, you may read on…

This is a beautiful kit and add on by Lien Click Photo Designs. The color palette is incredibly versatile and the pretty variety of papers and elements also lend themselves to a great variety of layouts. You can find both at Digital Crea and MScraps.

Someone commented that I had almost managed to use the entire kit in my page. LOL I wasn’t sure how to take it, since it’s a clean and simple kit and this is probably not all that clean and simple, but anyway, this is what I came up with! ;) I can’t help but smile when I look at that photo. :)

Already Week 3!

Well, I can sure tell that I had company for part of this week, because I only worked with a few Biograffiti products during my third week as a guest. LOL The first is a new release and another template from a set I had previously downloaded. Biograffiti has created a lovely set of papers that can be used with any layout. She calls them Neutral Linens, which describes them perfectly. As she points out on her blog, they are particularly well suited to photo blending.

I used a third template from this Four Play No. 1 set for my layout:

This page was a lot of fun to do. The little girl in the photo is my niece who was visiting us and the conversation between her and my daughter actually took place. :)

Next I snagged the beautiful 12 Days Papers by Biograffiti and ErinInk:

Week Two–Biograffiti

Hi! How’s it going? We have thunder even though we’re between storm clouds, so Penny is freaked out. :( But I’m not, so here I am to show you what I’ve been up to this week. :)

The first kit I downloaded was Ohana. It has a really fun color palette and a combination of doodled elements along with real ribbons and flowers, etc. The papers also offer a lot of variety.

Up next is Happy Camper. I love the papers in this kit, and besides the camping elements, there are several fun stitches, cardboard stuff, paper stars, messy smears, and the list goes on. The two alphas are great, too. An all around fantastic kit!

This is the first new release I’ve worked with during my guest month on Biograffiti’s CT. It’s a collab with Wish Bliss Studios called Hello, Life. In addition to two templates, the kit comes with a fun doodled pennant graphic and some cute word art. I used it with Graduation: Dare to Dream by Biograffiti and Sabrina Creations in my first layout and Note to Self by Biograffiti in my second layout.

A Sweet Summer

How’s the weather where you are? (I know, it’s not summer every place. I’m always so envious of folks in the southern hemisphere when it’s winter here and they have summer! LOL) As far as our weather goes, we’ve had a “real” summer with lots of heat and recently, humidity. The forecast says around 50% humidity tomorrow, though, so that’ll be a nice change.

MDesigns has a new kit called A Sweet Summer available at 7th Heaven and MDesignsscrap today. It includes some really gorgeous flowers, foliage and ribbons as well as cute bees, a stuffed bear and rabbit, etc. Check out this soft, sweet color palette:

You’ll Never Believe It…

But I have another guest spot! Back in December, I participated in the designer guest spot of Biograffiti at Oscraps. Amongst the prizes by random drawing were one guest spot per month for 2011 and I won August. :) So here I am, having more fun that oughta be allowed. LOL

While I was waiting to get set up in the forum, etc., I made this layout for the Camera Corner challenge using a kit that I already had on hand called Note to Self. The add on to it was free during Biograffiti’s designer spotlight.

Here is the kit.

Here is the first kit I downloaded. It’s called Crush and has the cutest word art included. The clean and simple papers and ellies add up to a really fabulous kit.

My other SPD layouts

Friday already! Time has really flown by for me this week, how about you? I just wanted to show you the rest of the kits I got to work with during my Shabby Pickle guest month. The first is by Delph Designs and it’s called Just a Little Wave. I like how she added some peach to the traditional ocean/beach type palette. It’s a really pretty kit with lots of versatility.

For my page, I made a second RAK for Karamelka (in case she might not like the first one… even though she assured me she did.) ;)

The next kit is called Rustic Summer, and it’s by WendyP Designs. (Wendy is a guest designer at SPD for August.) Lucky for me, she posted her new release before my month ran out! :) As you can see, this kit has really warm colors and it includes some cool wild life such as field mice and a bantam rooster.

For my page I also used the above Stacked Paper Templates by WendyP Designs:

Next up is another gorgeous kit by Marta Designs. I love these deep, rich colors and the whimsical elements that are included. I don’t have a separate paper preview, but those are awesome as well.

And here is my niece playing with the bubble set I gave her last week:

Finally, Shabby Pickle has a new collab this month. It’s called Say Cheese and has a little bit of everything as far as elements go. You could scrap just about any photo with it. The papers are mostly pretty pastels with light textures on them. It also includes a cute Swiss cheese alpha and two templates.
